Hagar The Horrible is an awful, awful comic strip. It is a daily, self-fulfilling prophecy.

Not only is there no discernible punchline in the final panel (which is devoid of anything that would infer any form of inflection to the mother’s words, such as punctuation), but the first two panels were seemingly just tacked on to increase the quantity of content.

I feel as though there are hidden messages in Hagar comics. The third panel of the one above asks a question that the fifth answers. The fourth panel asks a question that the sixth answers. And then there are these:

Hagar’s dog is disheartened by a sign that says ‘no trees’. However, there is a tree. And the pain becomes very personal somehow.

Hagar’s friend reads a letter. Hagar asks who wrote it. Hagar’s friend tells him. Everyone continues on to Family Circus.

After a quiet moment of reflection, we find out that Hagar’s friend is somewhat dim.

It would seem the formula is wholly unremarkable statements with picture accompaniment. So I made one myself:
